A view of Milaidhoo Maldives by artist Ashley Collins
We recently welcomed the famous American artist Ashley Collins – recognised as one of the top female contemporary painters in the world – to Milaidhoo. She very kindly drew us a representation of how she saw Milaidhoo during her stay.
“Collins’ deeply layered works integrate portions of figurative horseheads and silhouettes among subtle imagery from vintage photographs, pages of literature and postcards. Collins is as much a storyteller as a painter. For Collins the horse is a metaphor of power, strength, love, and endurance.”*
Here you can see she used her signature horse motif in the artwork, turning our island into a seahorse.
