World Ocean Day in Maldives
On 8th June 2022, Milaidhoo celebrated World Ocean Day along with our family members and beloved guests. This is a day dedicated to honouring the vast ocean and its inhabitants, the effects we as humans make on its safety and most importantly, what we can do to mitigate the damage caused by us humans every day.
Starting the day off with a trip to a local island, we explored the local island and engaged with the residents, observing how the locals of Maldives take care of their environment and the people around them on a daily basis.
A highlight of our World Ocean Day activities included cleaning the house reef surrounding Milaidhoo, where we collected displaced debris and other materials which had come our way through various currents in the ocean.
The successful day was concluded with a mesmerising movie, set at the Compass Bar. Namely, “Blue Planet II: Coral Reef”, a spectacular movie narrated by David Attenborough, which took us through the perspective of many sea creatures, and how they live in reefs that almost reminded us of kaleidoscopes. It was a fruitful day spent among friends who care about the ocean dearly.
