Top Five Dive Sites in Baa Atoll

Apr 10, 2022 Marine Biology

Whether you’re a seasoned diver or at the beginning of your dive career, Baa Atoll has some of the best diving sites in the Maldives. We have put together a list of our top five dive sites surrounding Milaidhoo, including the sites that are visited by the gentle Manta Rays during their season.

1. Dhigali Haa

This dive site is all about colours and abundance of fish. Due to the excellent reef formation of living coral, the beautiful colours and masses of fish are spectacularly impressive here. You also have a high chance of seeing sharks, stingrays, the mesmerising eagle rays and batfish.

2. Kakani Thila

This beautiful Thila, which is a submerged coral tower, is known for its most colourful coral foundations which are covered in soft corals of all colours of the rainbow. Depending on the current, you can also encounter bigger fish here like Pelagic fish as well as the amazing Manta Rays during their season.

3. Dhonfanu Thila

Throughout the year you may find sharks, Napoleons, Eagle Rays and. Also, for those who are eager to dive with Manta Rays, there is a high chance of seeing them here during their season. Obeying the laws of mother nature, this dive spot is not ideal to visit during days of strong current, therefore you might not always be able to visit the Dhonufanu Thila.

4. Dharavandhoo Thila

This is the top site for big fish as well as Manta Rays and a surprise sighting of the rare Whale Shark. However, there is always an element of luck involved and nothing can be guaranteed but this thila is a great reef formation with a coral cover that is home to many smaller inhabitants and micro sightings.

5. Dhigu Thila

If you enjoy a relaxed drift dive, here is the site for stronger current days. The narrow and very long reef hosts an abundance of fish life: Sharks, Groupers, Dog Tooth Tuna and even Mobula Rays.
