Check out our guide to the best time to visit Maldives:
The Dry Season
The Maldives is hot all year round, with average temperatures ranging between 23ºC and 31ºC. From December to April are the driest months, with little rain and low humidity and it is the perfect time for a winter escape from America or Europe, a Maldives babymoon, or a diving vacation. During the dry season the sea is calm with crystal-clear visibility which makes this the perfect season for sailing, kayaking, Dhoni cruising, snorkelling and scuba diving adventures.
Monsoon Season
The monsoon season (wet season) in Maldives is usually from June to end October but this is also the best time to see manta rays. Large numbers of manta rays, attracted by plankton rich currents, collect in Hanifaru Bay during monsoon season – they are also often accompanied by whale sharks. Snorkelling with manta rays is a memorable experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. During the rainy season, temperatures remain warm and there are long daylight hours filled with sunshine.
National Days
Maldives’ Independence Day is on 26 July and Milaidhoo honours the islands independence with traditional musical performances including Boduberu drummers and dancers. Maldives National Day, also known as Gaumee Dhuvas, is celebrated on the first day of the third month according to the Islamic lunar calendar. Milaidhoo celebrates the occasion with a vibrant local cultural show, and you can also learn to cook traditional Maldivian dishes. Enjoy an immersive culinary journey together with your personal chef. Pick local herbs, discuss Maldivian cuisine and create a piquant curry dish together.
Festive Season at Milaidhoo
Christmas and New Year at Milaidhoo is a treasured time of the year, where stories are shared and families come together. The Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on 22 December every year marks the start of our festive celebrations. Everyone is invited to join in this memorable occasion filled with festive cheer and Christmas carols. There are celebratory cocktail parties, afternoon tea, cherished Christmas Eve and Christmas Day festivities, and a magical New Year’s Eve gala dinner.
Dhivehi Festivals
Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth day of the last month of the Islamic calendar and is a joyous occasion at Milaidhoo. Celebrations over the four-day festival include music, dancing and special culinary feasts. Maldivians celebrate and honour Islamic Holy Month, (which falls on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar). Over Ramadan you can spend enjoyable evenings listening to live Arabic entertainment and tasting traditional Iftar and Ghabga dishes.
