While out night snorkeling on the Milaidhoo house reef recently, we spotted this little fellow: a painted spiny lobster.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re nocturnal and solitary, and usually hide away in holes or crevices during the day. Sometimes you can see their feelers extending out from their hiding place. They&#8217;re extremely shy and will retreat at the sight of a diver or snorkeler. They can also swim backwards quite quickly to escape predators by flapping their tail.<\/p>\n<p>We watched this one from an unthreatening distance for a short while and let it go on its way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More night snorkelling adventures!
