{"id":4323,"date":"2017-05-15T17:32:54","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T12:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.milaidhoo.com\/ru\/?p=4323"},"modified":"2025-06-25T14:39:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T09:09:14","slug":"say-hello-to-the-new-gang-in-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.milaidhoo.com\/ru\/say-hello-to-the-new-gang-in-town.html","title":{"rendered":"Say &#8216;Hello&#8217; to the new Gang in Town!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re excited to share that we&#8217;ve identified and named six new Hawksbill turtles which are long-term residents of the reefs surrounding Milaidhoo.<\/p>\n<p>The Hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is a critically endangered sea turtle so it&#8217;s lovely to see so many of them around here.<\/p>\n<p>Sea Turtles can be distinguished and identified by the unique markings on their head. Here in the Maldives, turtle sightings are recorded in a nationwide database run by the <a href=\"https:\/\/oliveridleyproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olive Ridley Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The great thing about this database is that each turtle can be identified and sightings recorded. And when anyone photographs a turtle for the first time, they can give this turtle a name.<\/p>\n<p>So far we&#8217;ve been so lucky enough to identify and name these beautiful Hawksbill Sea Turtles that are residents of the surrounding reefs.
