Despite their alien appearance, mantas are peaceful giants, feeding on nothing bigger than microscopic plankton and posing no threat to humans who can swim and snorkel alongside them.<\/p>\n<p>Not to be confused with sting rays, manta rays are peaceful, large (from 4m in size) filter feeders, sucking in plankton. Listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, they\u2019re not always easy to find in the wild.
